Part of the exhibition Artists Run Chicago, Alogon Gallery and InCUBATE team up to kickoff the Artist Run Credit League. The Artist Run Credit League was derived from the tanda, a form of rotating credit association and monetary practice formed by a core of participants who agree to make regular contributions to a fund which is given in whole or in part to each contributor in rotation. One of the most essential elements to any form of rotating credit is a mutual trust amongst all contributing members and a shared faith in the value of the community itself. At the kick off event a seed fund for the ARCL will be raised by a potluck cookout (allowing the ARCL to operate at a net profit), speakers will present on unconventional takes on money, and artist run spaces will have the opportunity to join the league.
Full details on how the ARCL will function, including the founding Memorandum of Understanding, are at: artistruncreditleague.wordpress.com
This discussion is a chance to share strategies on creative fund raising tools, learn about artist networks in Chicago, and get feedback on how the Artist Run Credit League can serve the needs of artist-run spaces.
